This is an interesting approach to software and is achieved through the implementation of several Workspaces that break the software down into modes ranging from almost fully automated effects to intermediate editing to the full version of the software.

Lastly you could just use vectors adding points and curves where you want them to simulate running over a bumpy surface. You can use the Effects -> Distortion -> Displacement Map effect to try and distort the lines, but this uses a base image and is only simulated 3D it's not 3D accurate.
